His Majesty Cup

Ministry of Commerce and Industry started the contest of His Majesty Cup for the Best five factories in the Year of Industry in 1991 as an embodiment of the His Majesty announcement of the years 1991 and 1992 as the years of Industry. The Ministry has focused on the application form of the contest to comprise many important criteria and necessary conditions for the factories in line with the industrial strategy.

It is the first contest in the Sultanate assigned for the industrial sector and the first one to hold His Majesty’s honorable name. Also, it is one of the means adapted by the Government to stimulate the industrial sector to exert more efforts in order to improve productivity, and quality and create new job opportunities for a large sector of Omani citizens by qualifying them to occupy different positions in the industrial establishments.

The contest is organized in line with the objectives of the industrial strategy which the Government aims to achieve. Accordingly, a number of objectives were set such as:
- Increase the percentage of Omanis in the participated factories.
- Give attention to staff training and qualification.
- Apply systems of vocational safety and security.
- Increase the percentage of Oman industrial exports.
- Commit to quality standards.
- Improve the productivity efficiency of factories.
- Promote the national products locally and internationally.
- Raise the efficiency of the industrial sector and its capability of competitiveness.
- Increase the contribution of the industrial sector in the GDP.
- Reach a high level of cooperation between the government and the private sector.
- Achieve integration in the local industries.

In order to give the chance to other factories to win, the Ministry developed and updated the contest system to achieve the aspirations of small, medium and large industries.
- 1n 1993, the contest was improved in such a manner that it grant certificates to the first five winning factories.
- In 1999, the participated factories were divided into two categories:

- In 2006, shields of honor were awarded to the five distinguished companies which follow the cup winners. Also, three companies were honored for their high performance in the fields of added value, quality and exports.
- In 2008, a new competitive category was added for the industrial establishments. Only the Wining factories for more than five times are qualified to compete in this category for a shield of honor.
- In 2009, the awards were amended. The cup is to be awarded to the distinguished company which won the cup for more than five times and the prizes became as follows:
