Patent information helps in transfer of technology, direct investment
The MOCI said that the patent information is required for transfer of technology, contribute in direct investment and encourages research and development. The ministry provides information of patents through a service which is helpful for innovators and the companies. The service is for providing details of the registration of the local and foreign patents in the intellectual department, its time and gives an opportunity to know latest developments in the field of various technologies. It provides deterrence and safety for the others’ innovations by informing them that such technologies have already been registered.
The intellectual property department of the ministry said that the information regarding the patents are technical and legal information mentioned in the documents of the patents published by the offices of the patents regularly. The patent document contains a comprehensive description of the method of work of the patented invention and the details which specify the scope of protection, date of the patenting, relevant references related to developments in the field of technology.
The total number of patent documents in the world is about 40 million, which makes patent information the most comprehensive collection of classified technical data, it said.
According to the ministry, "Patent information" helps researchers and business owners avoid duplication of research and development, build and improve existing products or processes, and assess the state of the specific industrial technology. It helps in development of idea in an area and identifying patented inventions in particular to avoid infringements. It helps in opportunities of licensing and monitoring of the activities of potential partners and competitors in and outside the country, identification of appropriate markets, understanding of new trends in technology or development of a product at an early stage, as well as identification and evaluation of technology licensing purposes and technology transfer as well as access to the latest technology in the field of competence and to find ready -made solutions for technical problems.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the disclosure of PCT patent applications for such a huge amount of information about their inventions because of the patent system which balances the exclusive granted rights to the owner of a patent for an invention as opposed to an obligation to disclose information to the public about the newly developed technology. But there should be emphasis that publishing such information will be made after the registration of patent applications by the intellectual property offices.
